Mr. Chris Sterling

Chris Sterling joined the FISD band staff as an Assistant Band Director in 2018. His responsibilities include direction of the FHS Symphonic Band, assisting with the Pride of the Texas Hill Country, and instruction of beginning clarinet and saxophone students. He is from Flower Mound, Texas and a graduate of Marcus High School where he participated in the band program under the direction of Amanda Drinkwater.

Sterling received his Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Oklahoma where he performed in concert ensembles under the direction of Dr. William Wakefield and Dr. Michael Hancock. He also served two years as a section leader in the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band under the direction of Mr. Brian Britt. His studies included private instruction on clarinet under Dr. Suzanne Tirk, conducting under Dr. Michael Hancock and Dr. Brian Wolfe, and composition under Dr. Dan Schwartz.

His previous teaching experience includes working with the Edmond Memorial High School and Cimarron Middle School bands in Edmond, Oklahoma as well as working as a marching technician with the Marcus High School Marching Band.

Sterling’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Association of Texas Small School Bands, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity. He enjoys traveling, hiking, and drinking coffee.
